The Technology Innovation Program (TIP) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) was established for the purpose of assisting United States businesses, institutions of higher education, organizations such as national laboratories, and nonprofit research institutions by supporting, promoting, and accelerating innovation in the United States through high-risk, high-reward research in areas of critical national need.3F1
TIP seeks to enable high-risk, transformative research targeted to address key societal challenges. Funding selections will be merit-based and may be provided to industry (small and medium-sized businesses), universities, and consortia. The primary mechanism for this support is cost-shared cooperative agreements.
