Tesla Motors is taking steps to make its cars’ autopilot function more effective—a feature that is key for a car to recognize and respond to its surroundings, including oncoming vehicles. German officials also are reportedly considering requiring all autonomous vehicles be outfitted with black boxes similar to airplanes in the wake of two crashes linked with autopilot.
