Here's a nice reflection about the legacy of Robert Galvin and Motorola, by Greg Weiler of ASQ Global.
"I was saddened to read the short obituary of Dr. Bob Galvin, former CEO of Motorola, and, I believe, one of the true Quality Gurus of our lifetime.
I was privileged to meet him during one of ASQ's Quality Month extravaganzas in the mid-90s, an international broadcast of a one-day Quality Forum. At any one of these programs, there would be upward of 200,000 tuning in or attending. For this particular event, ASQ always had a major corporate sponsor, and this year that sponsor was Motorola and the event was in Chicago. Motorola, after all, had won the Baldrige Award and would go on to win a second. It was traditional for the CEO of the sponsoring event to be a major speaker at the event and this was no exception.
